Mobile\'s (Very Non-Boaty)

I have just put my old mobile for sale on e-bay and within 2 hours some Mongoose from Indonesia wants to buy it from me without bidding. Anybody have an idea how much it will cost to send a mobile to Indonesia and will the phone work there (it is Tri-Band)
Thanks

not an expert on mobiles but i would of thought this is no market for used mobiles as a new one is cheap as chips, unless the situation is different in Indonesia, plus the phone has to be switced to a new provider,so yuor gonna send a disconnected phone to them, the cost of shipping probably exceeds any value the pnone may have ,but as i say im no expert in this matter.

Sorry Ian

but I believe there is a thriving trade in old mobiles to ship out to the third world by the containerload. They check them put new batteries in them and sell them as the mob market is booming there.

As regards Moose's question, if they have GSM there then a tri-band will work but anyway, if someone wants to buy it and is prepared to pay enough to clear the shipping cost and NB pays upfront - why is Moose worried if it works or what the cost of shipping is?

Re: Mobile\'s (Very Non-Boaty)

Part of the answer is that they do have GSM in Indonesia (both 900 and 1800 Mhz at least).

Sounds like one of those deals where before sending it one would want the money in ones account and have it well and truly safely matured there well beyond any reversal possibility before sending the goods.

You are quite right Antony, China has more mobile users than America.

Cant believe Moose is such a skinflint that he tried to flog an old moby on e-bay.

Moose is trying to flog an old Mobile on e-bay cos' he has to pay the Marina Fees next week/forums/images/icons/crazy.gif oh and the insurance/forums/images/icons/crazy.gif And I get through quite a bit of diesel/forums/images/icons/crazy.gif
Mine is quite a popular mobile and they seem to be going for about £100 on e-bay so I thought I may as well get what I can for it.

Indonesia is one of those countries like Nigeria where fraud is usually the main aim for anything. I'm not saying it is in this case, but I get orders for say 8 DSC radios, or GPS or w.h.y. and when I write and say sorry but if they wish to proceed I will give them a bank account number, (it's a special empty bank account), somehow I never hear from them again.

I would have happily swapped it for my rubber rings!!! We could really do with a tri band for when we get to St Martin.

Re: Mobile\'s (Very Non-Boaty)

We could send the phone out to you somewhere, it is a Nokia 6310i. It is brand new and I would like £75 for it, or a swap for the rings (What will you choose/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif)
I am off to Orlando tomorrow for a week to see Mickey Mouse.
No1 Moose is off school, lying in bed with flu.
Sounds like you are having fun out there. What are they doing letting an engineer on the bridge though????/forums/images/icons/crazy.gif That is bad news/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
My new job involves loads of flights to the Med and to the Caribbean (my second home when I was with BA) So I might see you around.
