IoM mobile phone company is independant so UK based companies will treat you as "overseas roaming". You probably need to check out the IoM company for charges. I think you will be charged for incoming calls at local IoM rates. International Data rates will be charged so probably worth switching off any background apps & auto updates.

Your phone will tell you which network it is using as it switches to the stronger signal & may even offer you a choice of networks.

It used to be a real stinger so be careful

The IoM has separate networks from the UK, but still has +44 numbers.

Only Orange will charge you, so check with Orange what their rates are for the IoM. The IoM network will only send their call records to Orange with whom they have an agreement on what they charge each other at the wholesale level, so what rates they have on their website is irrelevent. The rates that Orange charge may be different depending upon which visited network you're roaming on.

You can select the network manually when you get close to the IoM. If you leave your selection on automatic then the phone will route to Orange's preferred roaming network, but will use the other where coverage of the first is bad. I'm with O2 so generally select the network they own in the IoM.

I also turn my phone off on the passage so that it doesn't waste power communicating with cells on the horizon when at the limit of coverage.

It's the same as roaming anywhere abroad, so will cost a fortune. Get a local PAYG SIM card and tell friends your number.

A friend of mine has a flat on the Island and he spent a fortune before realising that he was roaming.

1st time I went over I didnt realise it was 'abroad'.After a great 3 day weekend I came home to a £300 extra bill for the family mobiles, mainly on data.

Suggest you turn roaming data off and have a look at the orange website for current roaming tariffs.

What they all said. Costs a mint to come here and it costs us a mint to visit uk especially data. Highly recommend buying local PAYG sim either MT or Sure.

Buy a local PAYG sim. SURE is the best one. Calls to UK landlines 12p per min. If you don't use it all up, you can use it on the mainland (Cable & Wireless) at a cost though!
