Does anyone know how to transfer contact data from a Nokia 3100 to a 6020 without losing the fomatting (home, work, mobile etc.). If I have to do it manually it'll take weeks and I won't have time to go sailing (boohoo)!
Never tried it, but the shops like phones for you etc all offer this service when you upgrade, maybe they will do it as a favour or nominal price. I am guessing you need a lead, though it might be possible over the IR.
Be interested to hear what you find out, p.s. love the subtle boaty link, that should keep the thought police at bay for a few minutes! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Both 'phones have the facility to back up to a PC using Nokia PC Suite. You can also view the data and update/restore a 'phone using PC Suite. I've done it with a single 'phone type (6310i), perhaps you can do the same between types. The downside is that the 3100 looks like it only has a cable connection. If you don't have one, is it worth buying one?
Copy the contact list to the sim card then transfer the sim card to the new phone. Easy - go to contacts - select - scroll down to copy from phone to sim card - insert sim card in new phone and copy to phone...
Noia pc suite is a nightmare and has to be removed from the registry manually - after fighting with a specialist remove program - you can't un install the beast. it is more of a devil to get rid of than AOL!!!
I've never had a problem with Nokia PC Suite. I've used it on two PCs and with two 'phones. I use it to backup the 'phone's directory and settings, and have composed ringing tunes (though I might not be wise admitting to that).
Acsully, I use nokia PC suite off my laptop using the Infra Red port. I did not know you could back up with it, I only use it occasionally to draw new graphics and for internet access, i.e. modem driver.
I might back my telephone up now so I do not lose some valuable numbers I have.
