Mobile Internet

I too am hoping to spend time on the west Scottish coast (predominantly Isle of Mull) and having internet access is a priority to get sorted. This GPRS seems to be adequate for what I need, though at 50kb it'd have to get used some to download 5Gb /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have one of these on T-mobile and it really is a good bit of kit.
It is better than the sky broadband i have at home!
I got it on a 18 month contract about 18 months ago and got a really good deal it think i pay £25 a month and it's unlimited use. They say there is a fair use policy but i have never had any problems but i dont download with it just use it for browsing.

When i got the contract i got one of the old pcmcia version which wouldnt work on a mac but they sold me one of the white mouse type a few months later for £30 which works fine on the mac.

Hiya, sorry for delay in reply.

most of what you were told is true apart from one or two bits.

if you go over the 5gb limit you will be charged £15 for each new gig you break into, so use 5.1gb and you pay £15 for the .1

if you sign up for 24 months, i know it's ages but in 2 years it will still be the fastest thing out there cos the network is not going to get any faster, you can have first 6 months free. not bad eh!

default settings are 3g preffered but drop onto gprs if out of signal. this will run at 56kbps which is slow but dialup speed. uk has 99.8% gprs coverage so your chances of getting this are good. i lived in oban for 4 years and it had coverage. there was talk of them getting channel 4 at some point hehe!

hope this helps, don't forget, you will get the device free if you sign for 24 months, it's the way forward imho.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the reply - interesting that you have used it in Oban (we still don't get channel 3 or digital ghere ...) - and also I hadn't appreciated the 6 months free for 2 year sign up.

I've been offered:

<<Our Business plan at £20 per month gives you Unlimited UK use subject to a fair usage of 5Gb.

There is no charge for exceeding the 5 Gb however should consistently go over this amount Vodafone UK may charge or even disconnect your service.
>>

Which sounds good - as I'm keen to avoid any unexpected charges. However when I put these conditions in the order that they requested (which I didn't think was that unreasonable) - they asked me to take them out - and just supply a blank order - which naturally makes me slightly suspicious to say the least.

Have tried a slightly reworded order - so we'll see whether that one passes !
