Hi - I’ve just tried calling the harbour office in Guernsey from my mobile and although it has a U.K. number, and I have international roaming and international minutes, it doesn’t work.

Is this normal? Do I need to speak to someone at my mobile company (Lebara) to get it fixed before I sail there next week? Many thanks.

I just tried (I have a Lebara SIM) and all I got was a bleep and "Call forwarding active" appeared.

But it is out of hours now.

Lebara staff are very helpful, I found when I had roaming problems.

I'm on Vodafone and called Victoria marina before sailing from Plymouth; all worked normally. To confirm the office number: 01481 725987. Was there a particular reason for the call that anyone here could help out with?

And to all of those interested, I’ve burrowed further into the Lebara app and…

Seems that the roaming minutes I have don’t cover the Channel Islands. I need to buy a load more roaming minutes and data (5G data, 200 minutes) for £10 which lasts 15 days. These will cover the CIs.

I’ll live with it; my usual SIM only deal with Lebara gets me 20g data, 200 EU roaming minutes, unlimited UK calls and texts for £7.99 a month…

It's the one weak spot in the Labara plan. As post 5 the Channel Isles are not covered, nor do they warn you on line or make it easy, or cheap to get around the problem. Best to get a local card which, I think, are only about 10 quid.

The Egyptian woman at customer service was at first baffled as to why my phone did not work and suggested coverage would not be good on a remote island. You have to reflect that Guernsey is actually quite developed and has a GDP roughly similar to the whole of Egypt. :)

.

Try spusu, cheaper, [I pay 4.90/month] and covers all of Europe calls for no extra charge with , for me, sufficient extras.

I'm not sure of what it is like at sea level around Guernsey but you can certainly log on to French networks from most areas of Jersey that have line of sight and at sea level on the east coast. I'd have expected that the east side of Guernsey should be much the same.

I don't think anyone includes the Channel Islands in their Europe roaming plans. Lebara are great for international roaming and countries not included can be covered for not a lot on their website.
