Back in January I bought a new lifebuoy and MOB Light set. The light was an incandescent type bulb with 4 X D2 batteries.

When ON the light flashed, although his function was not mentioned in the product description. I tested it a month later but the light did not work and discovered the batteries were flat. On investigation I discovered the batteries were being drained even when the light was OFF. The current drain (about 5mA) was pulsing in time with the flash rate, even though the light was not illuminating, so there was a fault, or a poor design, with the flash module. Rather than send it back, I have removed the flash module and it works perfectly with no current drain when OFF. I also replaced the incandescent bulb with an LED.

If you have the same light, when you can, do check it still works before you need it in anger.

That's bad,
Care to share what make it is ?

Did you fit a flashing LED or do you now have a non-flashing light

Was purchased from Marine Scene (I was very pleased with their service and the other items I bought) and the manufacturer's name on it shows it came from: Solas Lifebuoy Light,LED lifebuoy light, lifebuoy indication light, lifebuoy light Manufacturer,Supplier,Factory - Jiaxing Rongsheng Lifesaving Equipment Co., Ltd.

I did not fit a flashing LED, I only had a fixed 6V one in stock, and not sure of the benefit of a flashing one. Any sort of wave motion will probably make it appear to flash anyway. Battery life not a problem as it will now illuminate for about a week on 4 x D2s
