MMSI - could ask Ofcom - but ...

Re: MMSI - Thanks Mike & Arto

You guys are absolutely right. Spoken to Nichola at Ofcom this am. The MMSI stays with the boat. I don't know if I got this 100% - shes a fast talker, but if the current MMSI is not put in the second place on the application form the system generates a new number. This is what appears to have happened with mine. There is no reason for the change and Ofcom will re-issue the licence with the old number today.

My Furuno FM 2721 would have had to be reprogrammed with the new number by a Furuno engineer. Because the transceiver (black box) is installed behind fitted furniture it would have been necessary to call out the engineer and I was expecting a £60 bill.

I owe you guys a beer.

Thanks again

Do you have a marine operator licence? if so you should be aware of how the system is supposed to work. Or do you prefer to do your own thing regardless of inconvenience to others?

Just asking, not sending a flame :-)
