Mizzen staysail

Have just been asked to settle and arguement regarding the setting of a mizzen staysail. Does the foot attach to the downwind side of the boat or the upwind side. I have never seen one used so have no idea.

Weather rail, at or near the shroud plate. You need good airflow round the front of the mizzen staysail and not choke off the mainsail. Its a light air sail, so you need all the space you can get.

I put mine at the base of main mast, it's a Genica. I don't have the main up when flying it.

On my old gaff ketch I set up three attachment points; centre and both rails so that I could set it according to conditions.

On Heerenleed, a Nicholson 48 Ketch, it is the windward shroud plate. Always. The sheet goes through a block at the end of the mizzen boom.

Oh, and adding to my reply above, you obviously cannot tack or wear with it up. Tried it once- messy.
