Mixing two pot paint

Visit pets at home and pick up some of the free plastic dog food mixing cups. Graduations up the side, hold half a litre and at that price they are disposable :)

Can't remember what I was mixing (possibly resin) but the wax melted :(

The styrene in polyester resin will dissolve the wax but if you got your mix hot enough to actually melt the wax I guess it set pretty quickly!

What are they made of. Are they resistant to the solvents in the paints in the original question, or will it dissolve them?

The ones that I use are marked PP and have '5' written within the triangle. They also have the 'food grade' symbol of spoon and fork.

I use them for mixing epoxy as well as for bi-component paints like International Perfection and others. The advantage of measuring directly into the mixing cup is that the ratios are not skewed by residue that remains when using separate cups, especially noticeable in the case of the more viscous fluids.

Polypropylene is Ok . I just wondered if dog food cups might have been made of polystyrene. That would not be suitable

Thanks Guys. Spoke to SML who are the main agents for Jotun in the UK and always helpful, and they recommended mixing by weight using electronic scales. I have some of their polypropylene ( I think) paint pots and they are fine I've been told, and when the paint dries it's easy to crack them out and start again. They were only a pound each. Just need to wait till the temperature cools down.
