Missing yacht reward offered

I Followed this story closely.

As far as I can tell , the boat still hasn't turned up

Previous threads here and on the Cruisers Forum had suggested from drift analylsis that it would come in somewhere slightly ot the north of BVI

I can't see any reports that it has been discovered a,most 2 months after it was abandoned.

I was hoping for the family's sake it would be found, I know the Atlantic is a big place but I am surprised none has found it .

I can't see why it would have sunk.

Have I missed a news story about it being found?

Any theories about where it may have gone.?

I don't reckon the prospect of eating kids in a distress situation at sea is a particularly light-hearted topic. I obviously don't share your standards, thankfully.

Too right. I find it absolutely appaling that people believe they can set off on an ill-prepared transatlatic crossing thinking: no worries, if it all goes wrong I can just scoff a couple of the kids. The RYA should ensure this is covered by the YM Ocean syllabus.

You're doing yourself no flavours...

I really am tempted to say crispy bacon & cheese & onion-- With little girls being sugar & spice ( according to the song)

but to avoid winding you up even more I will be a little serious for once

here is a picture of the rudder from my Hanse made in 2003 which i believe was from the same Polish manufacturer ( now defunct)as the rudder on the hanse 53
I suffered a light grounding on the sandbanks just after leaving Inverness & anyone who knows the area will tell you that they are shallow with small boulders. It was very calm with zero swell & I was dragged on by the very strong current.
the boat should have been Ok but clearly you can see that one half just popped off.
If any slight bending moment happened on the yacht in question then I would imagine that the same happened.
They would not have seen the half float away & the autopilot would have just gone on steering untill the other half disintegrated
I now have a Jefa rudder which is vastly superior

I stumbled across this thread by accident this morning, I had been wondering only a couple of days ago whether Dove e we turned up, as I had seen nothing ...

Does anyone know?

It seems strange it didn't blow ashore or into a shipping channel

Although she could've blow ashore in a hurricane where the bits of fibre glass wouldn't be readily distinguishable from other wrecked boats. Or she could've blown into a shipping channel and not dodged the traffic.

Venezuela was the predicted destination, IIRC. Maybe they have more pressing concerns there than worrying about a badly damaged boat.
