Missing single-handed MOB Brighton

Just been a short article on local TV
Search has been suspended until the morning.
Divers are presently checking stern gear and hull for damage.
According to report, engines were not running when boat was boarded by RNLI.
The skipper was very experienced and it was not usual for him to go single handed when conditions were good on quick trips out.

Did you mean 'unusual'?

What's odd is that they don't mention if the engines were still running, or not.
Don't most people moor up first, then stop the engines?

I think this implies that they were not running which seems strange.

'Lifeboat crew boarded the boat and said they found evidence that the boat had recently been used because the engine was warm and that the boatmen was experienced as the route was well-planned out'

I do hope it turns out ok for the family.

Electrical storm across Hampshire and West Sussex last night quite severe at times it lingered throughout the night and conditions for crews involved in search could not have been good. 35+knts southerly gale tonight so hope must be diminishing for positive outcome.

The Stb side of the marked channel into Brighton marina is very shallow at lws, is it poss the engines were turned off after bottoming so as not to suck silt into the inlets. As to what happened next ......?

Considering the number of leisure craft in UK and the number of trips undertaken throughout the year, the number of unfortunate incidents such as this are mercifully rare.
A salutary reminder to all of us who enjoy and get so much pleasure from boating, to ensure that experience and longevity does not make us complacent about the risks of our choosen pastime.

Wrong or not it was spectacularly inappropriate
I hope the guy is found ok, but I don't get the above comment. If someone is convicted of a crime in this country, that is automatically a matter of public record, so why can't it be referred to as many times as anyone wishes to?

Quite agree, I just felt that the way it was written/timing was inappropriate.

I completely agree with you - as long as the information is factual and has been validated before publishing.
