It's just come to my attention that e-mails posted via the 'Contact us' button at the foot of the forums have been drifting off into a dark recess somewhere and getting lost in the bilge water.

My sincere apologies to anyone who mailed without success. It is not our usual habit to ignore you.

The address has been changed and will be checked daily. If you thought your message had sunk without trace you can also contact me at kim_hollamby@ipcmedia.com

Re: Missing cookies

Upgraded from ie5.5 to 6.0 (only occasionally use Mosaic) and set security for medium Ie won't accept unsigned ActiveX controls, or 3rd party cookies that will use personal, identifiable info without explicit or implicit consent.

Find I can't log-on - do I gather from this your privacy policy perhaps departs from the industry code of conduct?

Mozilla allows me to protect my details in another manner, apart by stonewalling.

Re: Missing cookies

If by industry you mean Microsoft I allow you to draw your own conclusions.

To quote our privacy policy: "Our cookies do not contain any personally identifying information but they do enable us to recognise your web browser (e.g. Netscape or Internet Explorer)". The cookies used by these forums are benign and designed solely to provide the log in and user preference functionality. If we disabled them you would have to set your own preferences every time you entered and would lose other info such as the number of posts since previous visit and so on.

There's been quite a few posts about privacy and the like of late but, as elsewhere, I can assure you that we have to operate strictly according to the 1998 UK Data Protection Act.

Re: Missing cookies

IE6 has changed the settings in your browser you need to set the security lower or personalise your settings otherwise cookies will not be allowed on a lot of sites.
Found that out when I changed and nobody would accept my logon.
