Missing sailors found safe
The yacht left Troon early on Saturday
Two sailors missing overnight in the Firth of Clyde have been found safe and well after an air and sea search. The alarm was raised when the Maud Ellen, with two people on board, failed to return to Troon on Saturday night.
A massive search was launched, involving a Royal Navy helicopter and five lifeboats.
The search was called off after the two crew members contacted coastguards by mobile phone on Sunday morning.
The couple spent the night moored in the East Loch in Tarbet when one became unwell.
The vessel left Troon early on Saturday morning.
The 22ft sloop with a wooden hull, was being crewed by its owner, an experienced yachtsman, and his female companion, both from Edinburgh.
Stuart Atkinson, watch manager at Clyde Coastguard, said that conditions for searching were difficult with heavy rain showers.
He said that the searchers concentrated on checking all marinas and ports in the Clyde estuary with the hope that the vessel had pulled in somewhere to rest for the night.
