Any suggestions as to suitable engine that will allow replacement of current 8hp Yanmar for more power. Contemplating Beta 13.5 or 16 but have been advised that this will need considerable modification to yacht due to low height of current engine space.

We just replaced our Yanmar YSE8 ( i think) with a Yanmar 3YM20 on our Mirage 28, overkill perhaps. It fitted in just fine, we didnt do the work. Needed to replace the exhaust hose and water muffler, different size hose I think. We had the yard do the work out in greece so didnt get to see it happeneing. Very nice quiet engine. Need to think about changing the prop now to get maximum efficiency out of the engine.

I (had) fitted the yanmar 2YM15 last year to my Mirage 28 and its fantastic. The only changes to the engine beds was the need to cut out the front cross bracing. The 15 is certainly powerful enough especially after the 8 hp.

Assume existing is a YSx8 Yanmar, which are horizontal bore engines. They aren't that much shorter than the vertical Kubota units available from Beta, Nanni and others. Here in Aus, Diecon also marinise the Kubota Z600 which is a horizontal bore two cylinder - very low package. Ask Beta if they do the same.

I replaced a Yanmar SB12 with a Kubota D850 (Diecon) and only had to build the beds up 25mm - the mounts were otherwise in pretty much the same place, although the engine did project further forward than the Yanmar.

Re: Mirage 28

Hi there - i have just bought a Mirage 28. Do you know of any owners associations or useful information sources for this boat? I'd be grateful if you could point me in the right direction.

Thanks
