I seem to remember him saying in an interview that there were advantages on all points of sailing. Going upwind he said something to the effect that given the enhanced buoyancy in front, the bow didn't dig in as much and the boat was thus not slowed down to the same extent.

Yes, that's what he said... However those looking at the tracker saw a boat that was on the pace up and downwind, but on the reach once through the doldrums just sailed away from the fleet. A more conventional course with less reaching is the proof of the pudding I think.

And this year's race is now on hold.... Waiting for a weather window.

I remember when the Kelt 850 came out it had a very "blunt" bow - say, a diametre of curve of about one foot. I remember the architect explaining the technical reasons why this type of bow was much more efficient than a pointy one. I forget the details though.
