HMS Quorn, the Royal Navy minesweeper affiliated to Ipswich, is paying a special visit to the town to receive the Freedom of the Borough.

The town developed a close relationship with its previous affiliated warship, HMS Grafton, and after that vessel was decommissioned, has transferred its affection to HMS Quorn, its captain and crew.

The ship will be docked at Ipswich Waterfront (along Orwell Quay) from Thursday to Monday and has a packed timetable throughout its stay:

* Thursday: HMS Quorn arrives around noon.
* Friday: Official duties.
* Saturday: HMS Quorn open for public visits (09:30 - 16:00).
* Sunday
11:30: Cadet display on the Cornhill;
12:10 Parade through the town centre begins;
12:30: Freedom of the Borough presentation on the Cornhill and Town Hall Steps.
* Monday: HMS Quorn departs in the afternoon.

This will be a weekend of celebrations and is a great opportunity for members of the public to get inside a magnificent Naval minesweeper and experience the excitement of the Parade.

They dont know what they are missing..... The 12 weeks I sent on Ton Class Sweeper Repton in 1963, and particularly crossing the Irish Sea from Waterford to Portsmouth in a Force 9 are still indelibly printed on my insides - Which at the time were on the outside

If it is called QUORN, does that means it is not a real HMS ship?
