I read science at Cambridge. Many of my colleagues wrote like that and it had nothing to do with any clever theories of comprehension.

Interesting. I was able to speed-read it at the first attempt, a great surprise as I had read a lot of research which explained that word shape (imagine an outline of a word which goes up and down with letters like h and y and only contains the first and last letters) was important - this experience seems to contradict that, in my case at least.

It seems to prove the theory. I speed read it at up to the word "Cloergs". Since "Colregs" is an abbreviation for two words rather than a proper word (and should really be Col-Regs) it appears quite logical that this should be the only word not instantly recognised. Anyone else have the same experience?
