It seems possible that some lightfingered person could possibly has decided that diesel was now too expensive to actually buy and have helped theselves.
A persistent fuel problem over a couple of weeks made me have a good look inside the starboard tank (gauge us) and lo and behold it was just about empty.
This should have contained about 35/40 gallons.
I have now taken the tank out(not an easy task) and it is being pressure tested as there is no sign of an actual hole.
Has anyone else suffered this problem.
The boat is between Chertsey and Penton Hook and the tank in question is on the river side.

Touch wood, it has been surprisingly quiet riverside throughout the summer this year. Laleham Reach however has had rather regular visits from the pikeys and there have been several events, some of which have been recorded on CCTV.

PM me your regular email address and I'll add you to the residents circulation list.

No way that even a litre or two of diesel could leak into your bilge without that pervasive pong making its presence known.
40 gallons is a lot of weight/fuel,too much to siphon so somebody came prepared with a pump ! that lot was probably worth £170.00.
Any signs of dirty footprints on deck or paint/scuff marks on hull.

I have not really noticed anything unusual regarding the deck or hull. A list to port but not too much as boat is heavy displacement type.
There is a public slipway just about opposite the mooring which is in fairly frequent use by all types. The chap who moors in front of us lost his RIB and outboard earlier this year but as Surrey Police are no longer interested having withdrawn the only police presence on the river it is not worth even reporting it.
Just put it down to experience and devise an anti theft device for the fuel inlets.
Still, something to spend the winter fuel payment on.

Vetus have a plastic device that you push into the fuel filler line and prevent hoses being inserted.

Can it be removed if things go horribly wrong...

I did inadvertantly ask the young lady at Bray to put thirty gallons of diesel into my water tank last month (well the boat was the other way round...); luckily she was more on the case than me! For once, all praise the labelling required by the BSC...

In answer to the OP, I have noticed a proliferation of small fast boats and cheap inflatables round here, but none carrying half a dozen jerry-cans. Will keep eyes and ears open though. I usually have a peep if anything goes past at night,

I received the tank back today and it is sound. No leaks, seepage or any other way the diesel could have got out apart from some light fingered b.....d with a pump.
I have devised a system whereby a hose can not be fed down into the tanks,I only hope that one day they will pump out something realy nasty but it will not be from my tanks,
mores the pity.
All I have now to do is spend next weekend getting the boat up and running again.
More time wasted because of people who cannot keep their fingers off of other peoples property.
