Milford Haven

Hi Dennis,

Spent a lot of my sea going proffesional life bringing tankers in and out of the Haven, both to Milford Haven side and also to Pembroke side. Always dreamed about coming back in a shrimper or simular to explore so am a bit jealous!

Ref the slow posting, you should be able to use the quick reply option which appears at bottom of page. You either need to press 'QUOTE', or one of the two pictures of a letter on one of the replies above!

Happy sailing!

Hi Dennis,

Yes - apparently it is normal to have your threads checked by a moderator - see:

At some undefined point you apparently become a trusted user ...

As another user living on the haven - I'd be only too happy to give any guidance I can - but looks like you have a fair bit of good advice already.

Feel free to PM me - and we can swap details and I'm sure we'll meet at some point (it maybe 22 miles - but its still a small place ;-)

Best wishes
James

My boat is going to have a few jobs done by Windjammer Marine before it goes into the water. If anyone has used them, have they been happy with the work? They seem a reasonable bunch, but a recommendation is always reassuring!

We also have a boat in Milford Marina and have used Windjammer for lots of work, including the fitting of a new engine. The company has been excellent, always doing what was necessary, to an entirely satisfactory standard and sufficiently promptly.

I have no hesitation in recommending Windjammer to you. As with all small companies it's worth getting to know the individual people, so that you can deal with them in an amicable manner as well as in a businesslike way.

Apart from asking Windjammer to undertake work for you it's also worth speaking to David Coates about any chandlery requirements. I have sometimes been pleasantly surprised by how reasonable his prices are for various items. There's also the twin advantage of no delivery charges and no difficulty returning an item if it's defective.

Good luck.

Sorry, forgot to add we have 2 small boys so places they can get a chance to helm etc would be good!

Thank you all for the comments - it is good to hear a recommendation for Windjammer, and I'm meeting David Coates on Saturday to discuss the jobs. Whether the transporter will have got the boat there by then is another story.....

I agree about David and Windjammer. I find him excellent to deal with, he will do his best to match internet prices on all types of equipment and delivery to the door is very convenient.

We shall be in the yard from Thursday pm and welcome all callers. Probably the only motorhome there but if in doubt it's a Burstner.

Enjoy the Haven - its where I learned to sail in a 'proper' boat - if you count a Galleon 22 as a 'proper boat' which I do!

I remember the Cleddau Bridge being built as our mooring was at Hobbs Point.

I still remember Pullcrochan flats (spelling?) - and the very quick lesson in kedging off on a falling tide that I gave myself that day.

You will learn to 'look which way the tide is going and decide that's the best way to go and to go that way' when you start sailing in Milford Haven.

Enjoy all the sights and places. I wonder if it still smells of petrochemicals like it used to?
