I have a Mikuni MY30 warm air diesel heater which has started to pump exhaust fumes into the cabin via the hot air outlets into the yacht - any ideas on how to diagnose the issue. Alternatively any reccomendations on heating engineers that deal with this kit

Wow - thats a quick response - thanks Sailorman. Ive sent an email to Mikuni. I cannot see any issue with the exhaust - so believe this must be an issue within the mikuni heater unit itself. As this is a problem with exhaust gases finding their way into the warm air outlets the Mikuni faulting guide doesnt help.

i have the same superb heater ;)

Yup, got one on Beleza, wonderful heater and great service.:):):):):):)

Had similar problem, turned out an old section of hose from previous installation (webasto) had failed and the heat from the Mikuni was giving a haze from this, soon cured by replacing defective hose and the heater continues to give excellent service 6 yrs on.

It could be any number of issues, but the most common whether you can see it or not is a fractured exhaust line. It could also be a warped / porus / holed heat exchanger or burned insulation rope at the combustion fan / heat exchanger interface. Steve at Mikuni will recommend a local agent (I think you are out of my area), as this goes to safety it needs a competent person to look at it and I strongly suggest you do not run it until then. The MY30 is an agricultural piece of kit, solid and reliable wit reasonable parts prices so you shouldn't get too much of a shock, even the heat exchanger, which really is a 10 year service replacement part is well under £100
As an add on, the heater should never be installed in such a way that if the exhaust leaks it can draw it into the cabin so if it is then you have an incorrect install, but that's not at all unusual in my experience.

MY 30

I have had one for years and find it a great heater . I did have sligthly smelly hot air at one point and was advised to take fresh induction air from a place outside the boat . ( mine was initially in the engine bay ) I fed the air from inside a locker and it improved it a lot . I sometimes get fuel dribble into the combustion chamber which burns off quickly . Mykuni advised that it should be run regularly to keep the chamber clean .
