When I bought my boat in April this year the heater wasn't working.
After cleaning the glow plug and changing a fuse all was well.

Today I thought I would fire her up just to make sure all was ok. No joy.

When I turn the fan on cool air is pumped through to the cabins. When I call for heat the red light comes on and nothing else happens even after 5 minutes.

I have checked and changed all the fuses and given the glow plug another clean, just in case.
On top of the heater there is a reset switch. This I pushed to reset and it clicked. I then did the same to the other reset switch in the hot air outlet. This didn't click so I assume it didn't need resetting.
I then reassembled everything and fired her up. Nothing. Still the red light and no sign of life.

Could it be that the fuel line needs bleeding?
I say this because the boat came with a full tank and I have been deliberately running the tank down as I do not know the age of the diesel. At just below 1/4 of a tank I refuelled and the tank is full.

Maybe at a 1/4 tank the fuel line doesn't reach that low and could have sucked in air.

If this is the case then how do you bleed the fuel line? I have looked at the line and the pump. There isn't any bulb to prime the line.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Sailor man,
Thanks for the link.
I already have that and also a copy of the manual, but they do not advise me on how to bleed the system.

I have been looking for a primer bulb in line but there is nothing, only the filter and pump,

Thanks again

just disconnect the fuel feed pipe from the pump & cycle the start-up to force the fuel through

By repeatedly attempting to start you will already be purging the fuel system, disconnecting the fuel line serves no purpose other than you can see the fuel exiting. Is the pump ticking? This is why I advise to run the heaters once a month for half an hour even in summer. Obviously at some time you have had an overheat if you needed to reset the trip so that needs to be investigated too.

That David

I haven't noticed the pump ticking.
I am on the boat tomorrow so I will check the cabling to the pump, although when I last looked everything appeared to be in order. I didn't notice a fuse for the pump. Should there be one?

No separate fuse for the pump. You say you have cleaned the plug but have you checked the equally if not more important glow plug boss and screen? If it turns out to be the pump that is the issue then I have a couple of known good used ones in 12v.
