mikuni exhaust help

I have had undo the exhaust on my mikuni heater at the skin fitting end but my question is do have to apply some sort of exhaust past when refitting to the skin fitting so that i get a good seal or do you just push on the pipe and clamp it down.

I used halfords stuff on an eber.

Does this stuff dry hard, or is it like mastic? I need to remove the eber for a clean up soon, am I likely to struggle to get it off at the heater end?

Dries hard but will separate easy as it's not an adhesive, also very easy to scrape off.
