After what seems like a lifetime of going up and down ladders, the routine maintenance (underwater section) finally came to a close last weekend. So, if SYH have done their stuff, Beyond Reason should be back in the water by now, excitedly waiting for her first sail of the season.

Just need to give her decks a good wash down (bu**er that, it can wait till we get back), connect up the echo sounder (probably do that before we leave /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif), and we can get out for a sail at last.

You have been warned. Very out of practice lady skipper on the loose on the Orwell this weekend. Tee hee.

I'll wave if we see you. I am going down late this afternoon, and planning Stone Point for Saturday before heading home to Cambridge very early Sunday.

And that means in and out of Stone Point on the night high tide. Hmmmm, things to please children.

As of today I should be back in the water at Paglesham. One of our first jaunts will be to SYC, either next weekend or the weekend after. We will be proudly displaying our fantastic new cockpit dodgers.

Oh!

Goodee..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am going to do some speed trials over the weekend to make sure the engine repairs are all ok....

How disappointing is that!

And you were out taking pix as well!

Couldn't have asked for better weather for our shakedown. Had a lovely time beating from the bridge to SYH even if it was against the tide.

We nearly had an incident with a large motoboat. I had to put in a tack to avoid a moored boat. I knew that on the new tack I would put myself in the path of a large motorboat. As I tacked, I could see that the motorboat was not altering
course for me, but had responded by speeding up. (Can't remember painting a target on my topsides over the winter.)

So instead of completing the tack I just put her into irons until the motorboat had passed by. If I'd completed the tack, the results could have been quite spectacular.

Cracking sail this weekend....

We also had a cracking sail this weekend.

We went through the lock into the Volkerak, sailing in a non SWIMBO approved tippy-uppy fashion. Lots of time in excess of 6 knots, average 4+knots (including time taken passing through the locks). Total trip distance 30nm.

Our tying up alongside/locking procedure is becoming undramatic /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif and even managed to get back into our box in one go, without touching anything /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

We also had an incident, where a small trimarane passed to leeward and then tacked towards us before he had actually passed. As we were on port tack I did get out of his way, but I felt it was a bit naughty to do that!
