Might be a bargain for someone...

Good post. Pity I'll be away for another month yet!

It's not really surprising that people get sceptical about 'bargains' on eBay as there are so many people trying to rip each other off on there. Only today there was the post about someone selling winches where the description was clearly a lie.

On the other side of the coin, when selling a boat there will always be those who try to con you, e.g. offering a good price and paying with a rubber cheque that bounces after the goods have gone.

Caveat everyone.

Hello everybody,

It has become apparent from this forum that you believe the sale of my yacht sebago is corrupt, and there's some sort of catch.

Sebago is part 1 registered and free from debt.

The reason she is for sale is because i lost my job in recession, and without selling her, my family can not have a christmas and i cannot move them away so that i can start a new job and provide for them.

If that makes everyone suspicious, what can i say? I am putting my family before my yacht - not gambling debts and certainly not anything to do with drugs!

I have been in the composite industry for the past 19 years working with re-inforced plastics - glass fibre and carbon fibre - and she needs no glass work doing - all has been done.

She is as stated! And the bargain of the century due to my curcumstances and NO other reason.

I, due to my massive time constraints - starting a new job and moving away with my family, i have no time to be messed around by ebayers who have no intention of viewing or not paying after auction end - so therefore i want contact assurance.

I will block any buyer/bidder who has not viewed the boat and talked to me over the phone or in person, over someone who has taken the time to study the boat for themselves, and speak to me about legitamacy of the sale.

I will not tolerate timewasters because she really is the bargain of the century, but my family will always come first.

I would love to spend a little bit of money and the time to finish her, but i do not think i can warrant it when i can't even buy xmas presents for my family. So sceptics amongst you miss out at your will, if you cannot even be bothered to find out the truth!

I have listed EVERY job that needs doing in detail, because i am being HONEST. Down to even fitting jackstays which takes 10-15 mins. The engine is not routed as you were suggesting, and is original design spec, but does need a new plastic fuel tank - that i do not have the money to buy - therefore it hasn't been started.

Sebago's theoretical hull speed is under 6 knots. Therefore the Sabb 8hp is more than adequate for the purpose that it is intended.

The work time estimates i believe are correct - and it is a genuine sale.

If in doubt, come and have a look, rather than just being sceptical in an online chat forum.

I bid you all a merry christmas and a happy new year,

Toby.

Thank you for taking the time to confirm your reason for sale, hopefully for you people will see this as they search on the web for others to compare for your boat. explaining the reason for sale might have tempted somone on here to be serious about buying her. :)

I posted your yacht on here because as my Post title says, it really is a bargain and worth considering.

As i said, she is a lovely boat and i probably would have given it serious consideration had it been for sale 6 months ago.

Fot the benefit of others, i do nt know the seller, i just really liked the look of the boat. :)

There are bargains to be had on e-bay, you just have to be careful, we bought our current boat off of e-bay and paid £9200 for a Bruce Roberts 34 which had had a new Beta 35 installed last year at a cost of £7500 with all receipts to prove it. It still needs a bit of tidying up inside but its only cosmetic and I can do it a my leisure when not sailing it. :)

As a matter of interest, did the Clipper come in two or more keel configs as I noticed on the drawings and the photo, one has long keel and the other has a cutaway.
Looks a like a sexy boat both ways.
