Midges/gnats/mosquitoes

If she is suffering that badly, while you can experiment to see if the other repellents work, she might to carry some 100% DEET which is easily available in many brands. It's what people use in malaria areas, and in tropical rain forests. There is nothing else as effective. You need to be very careful using it though, as it melts some types of plastic.

If it prevents the suffering, probably worth the hassle factor

You mentioned it in your reply above, Tea Tree oil, it is amazingly effective.

When in the cabin, use Vape-Mats. Just plug them in and put one of the small square 'mats' in them and they last all evening, or all night. Very low current usage.

We use those large green smouldering coils you can buy in Boots. Set one burning on deck as the sun goes down (make sure it's in a pan or something so you can't knock it over!) and bring it inside when you retire unless it's too strong (depends on boat size and air flow) in which case just leave it outside.

When we surface in the morning I have to wash down the decks as they are covered with dead mozzies! Good riddance I say!

Boots "Repel Extra Strength" @ £5.95

..got a good result in the "Which" magazine this month. It was "Best Buy" by far. Those pietzo-electric zappers are also very effective at neutralising the pain/itch. I was very sceptical at first until i tried one. 100% relief within seconds so long as you don't mind the slighly uncomfortable initial minor electric shock however, you may need two or three clicks per bite to get absolute (but permanent) relief. We keep one at home in the UK and another out on the boat in Greece. You can buy them from BOOTS or TESCO.
