I thought it would be a hoot to spend new year's eve in the Republic of Ireland this year. Carlingford marina is quite close, so I've booked myself in and paid for a night. Of course, the covid-19 situation, the almost guaranteed rain or even it just being my hair-wash night may mean that I can't actually make it on the day, but it's nice to know that I can go there if I need to and get a berth, because it's booked and I've paid for it. And got the receipt.

If anyone else wants to join me there and wave at me across the rain swept pontoon, you'd better book it soon too, because it's going to be a right busy ol' night according to the office. It's only €25. Carlingford marina can be found on +353 42 937 3072 . Did I mention that I've got the receipt?

At present you have to isolate for 14 days if you're coming from mainland UK.
But not if you are coming from Northern Ireland, and you don't have to isolate in NI if you are arriving from Scotland or England, sooo

Not that I would advise twisting the rules, you understand, being a big feartie.

One of the more interesting marinas Ive been to..Was build from sunken ships when I was there last.

Got stopped by 2 rigid raiders from Warren Point direction full of machine gun carrying marines on the way up the Loch, haddent realised the endless repetition on the VHF of “2143 Tango, 2143Tango” was the RN guard ship , an old Ton Class minesweeper, trying to call us by the racing number on my just bought boat. Did they not get taught to use a radio along with what cutlery to use at Dartmouth?
