Our local marina is offering a lift, hull wash and re-launch for £100

Me thinks not a bad deal, our 28ft planing sports crusier with "hard racing" black is a little shabby around the waterline.

I am however, getting conflicting advice.

Don't do it, it'll ruin your antifoul and/or wash it all off! Is what someone told me.

If this was not good practice why would they offer the service?

It is literally a wash and immeadiate re-launch.

Am I doing the right thing by doing this?

I allways used to , didnt seem to hurt the antifoul but it was mainly to clean and check the leg to see if anything nasty was going on (DPH:()

A couple of years ago MBM did an exercise with a Princess 43 that had not been washed or antifouled for 12 months and the burn in litres per mile was 29% less after a wash.

With hard racing a/f it makes a big difference to your fuel burn.

Hi Bandit

It was our 430 that we did the tests on and the boat burnt less fuel, managed better speed and got on the plane quicker. We had 63p's (not the most efficiencent) but as an example at 2400 rpm pre scrub the mean sog was 19 knots, post scrub mean SOG was 22 knots but the fuel consumption went from 111 to 100 lph so we went faster and saved fuel.

The figures where quite interesting and we saved money by having a mid season scrub before we went off to France and the Channel Islands on our holidays

I reworked the figures to give Litres per mile which in my mind is the real crunch, you need to combine both the GPH and the distance covered.

I have 63p's , second boat with same engines.

PM me your email and i will send reworked figures.

I have my V42 lifted and washed twice a season as well as having her out at the end of season for 3 months. The reason is to keep her bottom spotless-1. higher top planing speed , 2. increased fuel econmy, 3. anodes get changed(and props/sterngear inspected).
Well worth the lift, especially as we do a few north sea crossings a year!

We have ours out annually for a spruce up, anode change and antifoul so we find that we dont need a mid season scrub. We also use the boat a lot so we really dont get much growth. Any growth we do get around the waterline and on the drive just wipes off with a long handled brush.
