Michael Reeves-Fowkes \'Manual of Tides\'

Just seen a reference to this on another topic and thought it sounded interesting. Does anyone know if the Yachtsman's Tidal Atlas (ISBN 0713679840, here) is merely a subset of Yachtsman's Manual of Tides (ISBN 0713682906, here )?

Great books all of them. The Tidal Atlases are for one sea area only, the Manual is for all of the areas developed by Reeve-Fowkes

Agree, a great way to calculate tides, especially on a sail taking in Uk, CI and France, used to have to remember was I working in BST, Z or French summer time. Is it Dover tides or local!!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Michael Reezes-Fowkes makes it all much easier.

Another vote for the Reeves-Fowkes tidal atlas. Knocks spots off the Admiralty ones. Not to mention all that bu**ering about with tidal diamonds.

So if I buy the Manual is there any point in buying the Tidal Atlas for my area or will I already have all the same info in the manual?

I've ordered the Manual for £19.92 from www.bookbrowse.co.uk. Amazon have the Tidal Atlas covering Solent to The Wash for £9.14 (or just over £7 from some of their Marketplace Sellers).

It should all be in the Manual. Mind, my copy is first edition or thereabouts so it may have changed! Wait till you see the manual you have ordered and see if it covers all you need?

Re: Michael Reeves-Fowkes \'Manual of Tides\'

Mikebz - buy the complete Manual of Tides - it contains all 4 atlases that are also sold seperately.
There is also a 1st part that is on the theory of tides and very good reading it is.........this is not in the individual atlases.

The manual relies on Cherbourg tidal height tables which can be downloaded (free) from the Adlard Coles website.

You don't need to buy the individual 'Solent to Wash' as well.

Probably the easiest tidal methodology around, my copy is well worn; was discredited by the admiralty on two counts 1. He was a yotty and 2. He was French!
