Greetings from down under. I learnt to sail on the South Coast (So'ton - Chichester) in the late 80's and early 90's so I remember seeing MG Spring 25s on the Hamble (and sadly, I also remember the TV series!). My more respectable half and I are going back to sailing after years of hard-core scuba diving and the opportunity to buy an MG Spring 25 has come up. The issue for us is bridges. We have to clear 11.4m at MHW or 12.6m at MLW. Anyone have any advice or info?

Cheers

Ross

Try asking here?

If you have a rigger nearby it is not difficult for them to measure the mast height for a likely small charge. You could do it yourself by attaching a line to the halyard and marking it off when it is all the way up.

Always liked the Spring 25, I have an irrational desire to own one, wife won't let me.

Good luck

I dont know if you can trst the drawing here http://sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_id=3618 to be an accurate scale drawing.

If it is you can estimate the air draught to be about 11.8m This means you won't get under the bridges at anything more than half tide. Lower with aerials etc at the mast head or if meteorological conditions or surges raise the level

That seems rather high for a boat with an LOA of just under 8m?

Yes . Its fractional rig and the mast alone is a good bit longer than the boat. Quite apparent when laid up ashore with the mast lying on top of the boat

I make it even more when scaled off these photos
