Right thats two pints you owe me!

H is right though, Iv'e been going up and down the channel for a few years now and the timing is crucial.......... especially in a slowish boat? Each time I have gone through the lock it has closed within 5 mins. Great place once there and the pubs are brill. Marinas not bad either, staff are great.

Must try harder next time. Well, thats what I said to my self. I thort, if I followed my track in, where I hit nowt, If I followed it back. Then that would be OK.Well it sort of was, but wasn't. It was ok on the grounds that we did not hit anything, but we found other buoys miles from our route in. Dunno whether they'd moved them all, or what.

Tom, after sounding most of the Lune it appears you can go most any where without running aground. We did anyway!!

To start at the beginning, High tide was at 13.30, we needed to get out ASP, Sign in office said, lock two hours before. Getting out of the bassin took for ever, they had to put a rope on the lock and winch it in. Eventually they opened the bridge. So we had to squeeze between one open lock gate and the closed one. Finally through that chicane, the outer lock is still shut, with a dredger in the way. Got out about 13.00, then off down the wibbly wobbly way. I thort it woulde be easy back, but nothing like it.

The sea got rougher and rougher, I stuck the nose down, which helped a bit, but not alot. Turning south at the fair way mark, helped a bit, bit still crashing a bit. Nothing like as forcast. It calmed down eventually, so I came down stairs to look at temperatures, except one clock had bounced out of it's hole and I had to fish for it. All was well. Problem being that the fly bridge lights and buzzers were on the blink and awaiting parts.

Closing on the Straits, I asked Deb the time. Think we can just sneak into Conwy. So we did. Little bit tight, but no probs. Could not get in the marina, but theres a pontoon outside. The tide was running hard, so had to aim straight on to the pontoon, trouble was, when you got close, the current changed. Eventually we got the bow lassooed. First time ever, the current was that strong, the arse would not come round, then the shallow water alarm went off . Then the over heating alarm went off, the one that was not supposed to work! It was not the time for engines not working, so I told Debs to let go. Ambled up the river on one engine and parked up. Temp's looked ok when I could finally get down to look. No idea what happened.

So on a pontoon, Conwy town. Boats filthy, needs a few little mends, but all in all, nothing seiously went wrong.

I spose there's no point in having alarms if you don't test 'em from time to time- again and again, is there?

Damn sight better story than;

"Left Glasson, arrived Conwy, walked dog."

When do we get to see the film of the dog's stern by the way ? I need something to distract one of the sheepdogs from looking lasciviously at the house cat.

You must be glad to be heading South out of the iceberg area anyway.

Tested the aLARMS they did not work, hence the spare parts??

Just managed about a five hour window, blowing a hoolly now Strange forcast , F8 in IOM yet 3 knot's in Conwy. It seemed to work out that way. Hardly much broke.

Tom, after sounding most of the Lune it appears you can go most any where without running aground. We did anyway!!

H After entering the Lune following each bouy Port to Starboard and felt like I was weaving rather than sailing/cruising, it was only at looking back from Plover Scar I could see they were in fact gates for the bigger ships that go into Glasson.

So we went Port marker, starboard marker when in fact it was almost a stright line........ we live and learn.

I'll be at the boat Wednesday.

Well I've no more idea where the chanel is now, than when I started.

Going home tomorrow.

Big tides (and heavy rain) on the Conway kick up loads of silt, could that affect your errant depth & overheating alarms?

Oh, & welcome back. Here is vid of me motoring in Straits. Doing all of 2kts into F5-6. i didn't want to go faster as tide was with me & I didn't want any more spray than I was getting. No point in getting any wetter thann you need to.

well, delighted things are sorting themselves out, but it doesn't seem to have been one of those classic MF tours. Leaves the punters wanting a bit more, somehow. We silent spectators need a bit more adrenalin-surging stuff. (not much adrenalin on the canals were I operate, of course). Forza!

Ah well, were on a 3 connection and half the posts disappear!! Had incitement yesterday, mooring to the outside of Conwy marina. First the current was so strong, the only way to get there was head on, then lassoo. But just then the shallow water alarm went off when I had full power on to get the arse end round, next the over heating alarm went off. as I looked at the warnings, we hit an eddy and MF tried to climb onto the pontoon.

Will that do!!

No, they'd not put one of the stupid Volsplutter pipes on right, when the new oil coolers were fitted. Not that it was there fault, there only conected by a hope and a prayer.

Yer vidio.....Wheres the nudes, bombs and action??

Glad you found the problem - funny how they always pop up when you least need it!

NUDES? I wouldn't wear less than 5 layers plus oilies in those conditions - so not much chance of any nudity - unless already dead! No bombs - not in Ireland, but enough action for my tastes. I was testing my auto-pilot after spending £140 on replacing 2 cogs in it.

Anyway, it's my first attempt - using my phone for chissakes! I have another sequence sailing at 7kts with half a sail up but it is taken sideways on!

Much more like it - keep it coming.

(How do you do the quote thing properly?)

Tom,
Sorry about the noise - most of it is simply wind on the phone mic, but there is a real noisy halliard banging away in the background. I'll try to put it in an old sock next time - but the picture quality may suffer.:D

I can't afford a greenhouse like yours, but I may be getting a tent to hide in shortly - if Roger of Mouse Sails ever gets his butt in gear.

Will we ever escape Glasson Dock, or are we doomed to stay forever. We've come home and abandoned her there.

Got her lifted on Tuesday, but the two weeks in fresh water had cleaned her bum. Anyway a shaft anode had dropped off and the props had a load of calcium type stuff on them, as mentioned on another thread. So not every thing waisted.

Sunday was boat handling day at the boat club, MF entered, but never got a map of the course. Far to shallow where they'd made it anyhow.

MF spent her time giving boat trips for the narrow boaters. They'd never seen anything like it!!

Narrow boaters do allot of shoving and pushing, they don't seem to know how to stop!:(

So there shoving and pushing MF, each time I ave to get her back alongside, to use MF's bow thruster. MF's bow thruster is a big round fender that is multi directional. You just sort of roll round it, then when you have the right trajectory, you fire your self off. It is very effective.

So once we've got the "helpers" to stop pushing, MF does her thing. Growl, thunder and a plume of fog to hide the action. Two seconds later, she's sat there, twenty feet off the dock.

Fkingell says one of the crowd. Never seen nowt like that!!:D

At the night do, we won the prize for furthest to the rally, but not for cleanest engines, or the other hoard of prizes.:(

Will MF ever get back to Conway, stand by for further installments.

MF's World Cruise, draws to a close tomorrow. Back in Conwy snug as a bug., visited Tom on Little Ship, who has managed to calibrate his kettle to his boats speed!!

Only managed about 150 miles on the world cruise in about six to eight weeks??

Is it just us that needs a herd of mechanics, after a little cruise??

Water leak here, fuel leak , here there and every where, broken stud on water pump. It's a frantic job keeping on top, even though I've a full time job mending or cleaning the day to day jobs.

definately Swn Y Mor on the move, not to speak to, would have if I'd realised. There is (I think) another converted RNLI life boat called Ramsey. Think Swn Y Mor is cream with geen paint on. Ramsey is orange.
