Will we ever escape Glasson Dock, or are we doomed to stay forever. We've come home and abandoned her there.

Got her lifted on Tuesday, but the two weeks in fresh water had cleaned her bum. Anyway a shaft anode had dropped off and the props had a load of calcium type stuff on them, as mentioned on another thread. So not every thing waisted.

Sunday was boat handling day at the boat club, MF entered, but never got a map of the course. Far to shallow where they'd made it anyhow.

MF spent her time giving boat trips for the narrow boaters. They'd never seen anything like it!!

Narrow boaters do allot of shoving and pushing, they don't seem to know how to stop!:(

So there shoving and pushing MF, each time I ave to get her back alongside, to use MF's bow thruster. MF's bow thruster is a big round fender that is multi directional. You just sort of roll round it, then when you have the right trajectory, you fire your self off. It is very effective.

So once we've got the "helpers" to stop pushing, MF does her thing. Growl, thunder and a plume of fog to hide the action. Two seconds later, she's sat there, twenty feet off the dock.

Fkingell says one of the crowd. Never seen nowt like that!!:D

At the night do, we won the prize for furthest to the rally, but not for cleanest engines, or the other hoard of prizes.:(

Will MF ever get back to Conway, stand by for further installments.

Sorry no-one replied - maybe everyone was mesmerised by the idea of MF playing with the mudskippers - and that you are having such **** weather up North.

Down in the South August was a pretty good month - I got out 12 days during the month and put almost 40 hours on her. Hope you get out of Glasson soon before you go stir crazy. Or maybe you already have.... :D

Thing is, from Glasson, you have about half an hour to get out, then cant come back.

Thanks for replying, never thought I'd say that.

Was gonna send You a PM
Thought thats how You did all your communication these days.
But didn't want to get banned!!

Hey, save the calcium.
Could come in handy on the gnashers!!

Didn't notice tother thread ref props.
Not another PM scenario?

:-) Made me laugh. Can just imagine the scene - they'd be in awe of your boat handling of MF. I don't know glasson dock, but spent many a happy hour at the "marina" at Hesketh Bank/Tarleton. That'd be a good place to winterise MF wouldn't it? Bit muddy I know. Well, a lot muddy.
Thort you'd had enough of Conwy and were looking for pastures new? West country again? Or turn right not left, when you get to Fleetwood?

Do you know, I've lived in Lancashire all my life and sailed something or other for most of it. But visiting Glasson, is the first time I've ever sailed a boat into Lancashire.

Always gone round it, or avoided it one way or another.

:-) I've sailed many boats in Lancashire but always inland. Dinghies and speedboats at Crosby and Southport lakes, mobo chugger on the Leeds-Liv canal (launch by Saracen's head pub), plus launching boats (sometimes unsucessfully) off Southport beach. So I've never sailed into Lancashire either. My brother has done it lots, into that Hesketh Bank place with 52foot trawler yacht, and he tells me it's muddy and you scuff the propellers all the way along the ditch!

Must be nice having MF a 20minute drive from home tho

Yep, like wise. National Ospray on the local res and on Windermere (Is that Lancashire)!!

Debs barge, that we could park at the bottom of the garden.

But as I'd suspected, getting into or out of Lancashire is a night mare. Once out of Glasson, you cant turn round and go back, you have to carry on regardless.

I am still laffing.

It's true, the ditch crawlers call on millions of helpers to get them off the bank.

They thought they were at Cape Canaveral when MF set off!!

Last time I was boating in Glasson Dock was 1986, in a Zodiac 310 and a 8HP motor. I got banned from the Marina for going to fast so moved onto the canal. One NB owner got very angry with us and threatened to decapitate me...which my grandfather thought was a bit strong as I was 12 and so a crazy argument ensued. In the end I got banned from the canal as well. Been back to go to the pubs with illicit GF's over the years as it is the arse end of nowhere. Got to say there are some nice boatowners and live aboards there but also get the impression that a few local farm hands ended up living on old wrecks after being caught copulating with their sisters...you know the type!

We did go there for a sail several times in the early 1990's on a freinds 40ft Ferro yacht but we never got out due to Lock breaking, weather rusbbish or too much beer the night before.

Seems most boats struggle to go anywhere so do sympathise

Hope you escape soon or you will get Cabin Fever, dump Debs and marry your dog!

I didn't reply 'cos, as instructed, I was waiting for further installments!!

Not much of an installment, but we're going to Glasson tomorrow, in the hope of getting her out on Monday. Whats the record for waiting for weather?? It's not as though you can go out, have a blam about and come back, if it's a bit rough. Once out, you have to scoot nine miles down the chanel sharpish, before it drys out. OK theres Fleetwood I suppose, but then it's back to samish sort of problems. Else Billy no mates in the mud and rain.

We could call in at Blackpool, anchoring about a mile off, then a long dinghy ride and another mile hike across the beach. Liverpool, Hmmm'!!

Keep up at the back. We've just come from bloody Duglas. Should be in Conwy tomorrow, or there abouts.

Debs got the camera working again, so there might be more Mucky Farter movies in store.

Anyone know if the Prince Madog is at home, might need to stay there tomorrow night.

Come on Haydn, it can't be THAT quick otherwise Tom would never get in or out in Littleship, now would he? I would have thought that MF could get in get out and shake it all about in the time Littleship would take just to get in to Glasson !:D

Dependant on tide, the lock is open for as little as half an hour, it's 14 miles to proper sea. Ok you can divert to Fleetwood and sit on a buoy in the rain.

For the first few miles, the chanel dries out at half tide. It's not the sort of place you can blam about in, less knowing the chanel very well, which keeps changing.

So we're not much faster than LS.

Right thats two pints you owe me!

H is right though, Iv'e been going up and down the channel for a few years now and the timing is crucial.......... especially in a slowish boat? Each time I have gone through the lock it has closed within 5 mins. Great place once there and the pubs are brill. Marinas not bad either, staff are great.
