Does anyone know of an external sealant to paint over a 15 year old inflatable dinghy?

It has been stored folded over the winter years and is showing its age with various leaks. The sealant would preferrably be camoflage green to match the dinghy.

Dennis, You do not paint a porous tender externally, what you do is to fill it internally with a sealent. This is available from www.polymarine.co.uk phone 01492 853322

Slight correction there ..... you do not FILL it internally ..... what you do is pour in a bottle content, about 1/2 litre via the valves, which preferably have been unscrewed and removed from their respective bases. You then roll it around to distribute the sealant, replace the valves and pump up to the recc'd amount on the bottle, in fact the instructions are on the bottle !!!, but anyway you keep the sealant distributed around the internal surfaces by moving the boat about and wait for it to seal. You will find white bubbles exiting all sorts of places possibly ... that's what I had !!!!

But it was short lived, my dinghy was a Narwhal, Glued seam job and the internal sealant actually 'released' the seams and it went flat during the curing !!!!

So I would suggest try it .... its worth the fiver to see if it works for you, but honestly it is NOT a replacement for the inevitable purchase of another dinghy ! And why pay for new one .... many good secondhand dinghys are on the market ... I paid £300 for a combo Avon Redcrest dinghy and Johnson 4hp o/board. That was 3 years ago and its all still going well. I had to replace the valves about a year ago, £45 at local agents and thats it.

Good luck anyway
