metal block below swim platform - any ideas?

Hi, we have a Birchwood Crusader which has a metal block fixed below the swim platform - it seems to have been factory fitted but we cannot see that it serves any purpose - I have attached a couple of pictures - does anyone have any idea what it could be for? Thanks

Its a mounting point for a vertical Snap Davit
