Not needed anymore - thanks - got it done, found a right sized bar and bended by hand around it.

Help please: I need to bend two pieces of metal, something like this would be perfect: http://www.sealey.co.uk/PLPageBuilder.asp?id=20&method=mViewProduct&productid=11110 but for one off project I do not wish to spend about £100 to buy it. Is there anybody around Chelmsford (20 miles?) who can lend or let me use a similar tool please?

I have got a mild steel bar 50 mm wide and 3 mm thick, need to bend one end to form u shaped "hook" with internal diameter somewhere between 51-55 mm.

I used to get good results using two pieces of angle iron and a round bar in the vice, with the help of a lump hammer:encouragement:

I am sorry, I did not realize you have got it and obviously I would love to borrow it please, if it has got a suitable stock. A bottle of wine or a tenner in exchange?
 
It has a 57mm dia meter former but not 51mm.

I wouldn't want anything for lending it (apart from it's safe return!) but have you considered buying the Sealey one, using it and then selling it on eBay?

57 mm could work for me too, the radius is not that critical for my application.
Are you in Essex? Perhaps it might be best to visit you with my two metal pieces to bend - that way your bender will not go out of your sight :)

I did consider buying the Sealey bender and I could even return it next day if I buy it online but it is as much hassle (and money) as borrowing one (and also not quite right thing to do). I researched tool hire too - nobody offers anything suitable to hire.

Are we getting mixed up between radius and diameter? You say 51mm radius but that requires a 102mm former (4 inches). Mine is 57mm diameter. I don't think my machine would accommodate a 102mm diameter former.

Also, what sort of metal are you going to bend and what are it's dimensions?

I also have a piece of wooden rolling pin which is 52.5mm diameter. Might that do?

The minimum diameter needed is 51 mm, 57 mm can do too and 52.5 mm would be perfect. I am sorry about the mixup. The metal is mild steel, 50 mm wide and 3 mm thick. Will you PM your phone number please? That could make things a bit easier to discuss.
