Met Office weather app

Phone has just updated to app. There is no synoptic chart view that I could find.

They want a fee per year to stop adverts. It should be advert free in the UK as the tax payer has already funded the App.

Completed the feedback survey.

Pity about that but you can run and app such as Ventusky

This will be as instructed by H M Treasury, I suspect.

The rain radar on the app has shown the past 6 hours rainfall for quite a few years.
I cannot differ as I do not have the old version. I have used the app many times for such vital decisions as when can I go for a walk and stay dry. I was sure that it only gave me rain from now on. I have always used the website; for actual rain over the past two days at 15 minute intervals.

if you don't like it, fill in the feedback/survey. I did. An essay  .
Whether it'll make any difference I'm not holding out much hope, but if enough people respond negatively, maybe they will - the only thing that is certain is that nothing will change if no-one says anything.

Yes, it is worth reading what the aims were for the new app.
As a general thought, of course you might not like those aims and what that implies, but perhaps that is different from criticising the functioning of the app itself.
I used the old app for day to day, probably like the vast pct of people. For boating I used others, and then I would use several for a comparison.
As mentioned elsewhere, if you want Met inshore, shipping ,synoptic charts etc, it will take you just a moment to set up a new icon. Hardly a challenge.
I imagine if a vast number of those looking for today's weather really wanted a synoptic chart and not some graphics, they would have designed a different app.
For those who have not read the supporting info, they are well aware that the synoptic charts are no longer there, and they may add them going forward.
They have to start somewhere if they want to redesign the app.
Seems fine to me.

Both the new App and new Web site format are made for people with low concentration spans. On the old Web sit layout, I could scroll through the table of data for an area and see how the weather changed. The new dashboard style does not allow that, I have to go to each day separately. In this regard the phone App is better. The wind direction has been replaced by an arrow, no doubt becuase they believe that people are too thick to understand wind direcion referenced to a compass. I guess retarded society will now think the wind blows from up, down, left, right or a wee bit slanty. I am interested in trends over a week and the new formats are not good for that.

I will probably stop using Met Office for sailing that and just focus on Predict Wind going forward.

TV weather forecasting was dumbed down some years ago when they removed the synoptic charts. It's understandable the app now follows suit as data presentation heads straight to the lowest common denominator.

All you need now are some animated emoticons with sun, umbrellas and a man in the moon.

I have Vitality health insurance and last year they took a massive step back introducing a game in their app involving their dog called Stanley to access your loyalty rewards.

They told me they've back pedalled on this after customer feedback.

Lots of extra details on their you tube channel

The old app used to display the weather forecast for your current and a saved location which was often useful but that doesn’t seem to be case now?
You can add saved locations. Not as intuitive as the earlier version and I don't know how many.
The old app showed the forecast for my village and sometimes even named a road, presumably based upon which aerial the phone was was using. New app gives a nearby town as my location about 2 miles away. So much for improvement !
I know 2 miles isn't much as far as weather forecasting goes, but I do wonder on the accuracy when it can't even get my location correct !
