My tablet has swapped over to the new version of this today.

It didn't bring over my saved locations and I'm finding the new version very clunky to use.

Trying to add in my locations isn't easy and to see the rain radar you have to open up a location first.

Not happy though I suspect the committee who agreed it think it is super !:mad:

I switch back to the old version too, but I wonder how long we will have that option.
My Google 8 phone was forced over this morning. Had a look on play store and only the new app is available.
It's also missing the feels like temperature.
I used to prefer the met office over the BBC but now the BBC weather app is vastly superior in my mind.

The roll back button on the iPad had gone and been replaced with an update request to roll out the App. The way, from their App message:-

We’ve upgraded our weather app to make our forecasts and warnings clearer and easier to use.

Download our refreshed app on an iOS device or an Android device now - and let us know what you think.

Why have you changed the app?

Since 2016, our Met Office app has kept millions of people safe and informed about the weather. But technology moves fast, and the old infrastructure had become increasingly complex making it harder for us to keep improving the experience for everyone.

Users told us they want a more modern and less cluttered design that helps them get key weather information quickly and easily. We’ve listened and built from the ground up.

Our refreshed app uses a modern framework for faster updates and a unified design across iOS and Android. It’s the same trusted weather information in a clearer, easier-to-read format.

What are the features of the refreshed app?

With the new-look app you can:

  • Download a daily or hourly widget to enable you to see the weather forecast from your phone's homescreen
  • Get instant alerts to warnings for your saved location and access all other UK weather warnings via a single click
  • Check the weather in your area for the next hour and up to 7 days ahead
  • Save your favourite locations for quick access and notifications
  • See pollen levels and types during the UK pollen season
  • Explore interactive maps for cloud, rain, and temperature over the next 5 days
  • View detailed information, including feels-like temperature, wind, humidity, visibility, UV level
  • Watch our latest presented video forecast
Share feedback to help us continually improve.

New features we're working to introduce

These are forecast views and capabilities that we plan to add to the app:

  • 14-day forecast - to support planning further ahead
  • Beach forecast - tailored to coastal conditions
  • Mountain forecasts - reflecting weather at altitude
  • Regional forecasts - providing a broader view beyond individual locations
  • Long-range forecasts - for longer-term outlooks
  • Improved pollen modelling - to increase confidence and usefulness of pollen information

Improvements based on user feedback

Alongside new features, we’re improving existing parts of the app based on feedback and how people use it.

  • Widgets – ongoing improvements to clarity and everyday usefulness
  • Weather cards – more contextual and visual presentation to support quicker understanding and decision-making
  • Locations – iterations to location journeys, including clearer comparison across multiple places
  • Maps performance – improving responsiveness and interaction, including how the timeline is presented
  • Richer weather detail - including hourly “feels like” temperature, hourly wind gusts and pressure charts
We’ll continue to prioritise this work as we learn more from feedback and usage, focusing on what helps people make confident and informed weather-related decisions.

How can I get the refreshed app?

You'll receive the refreshed app automatically by 14 January 2026, if you already have our app and have automatic updates enabled. Otherwise, you’ll need to manually update the app to get the new version.

We'd recommend ensuring your device automatically updates apps to receive new app features and improvements as soon as they are released.

If you don’t already have our app, the new version will be available to download from the App Store (Apple) and the Google Play Store (Android) from 14 January 2026.

How can I provide feedback?

You can give feedback directly from the app via buttons at the top and bottom of the screen. Your feedback helps shape the future development of our app.

The pressure map has gone which makes it useless
I've never used the app but instead added a browser link as an icon on my home page pointing to this page:

Surface Pressure Charts

Look online how to add browser pages as icons. I've done similar with Ian Millards Windicator, local tide pages etc, see second line on my apps page, all links.

@wonkywinch thanks for posting the App icon as a browser link. I never knew that function existed. A great idea for being efficient and getting straight to the good info. Apps take up significant memory, and this option can help reduce that load.

Edit
Just added a browser link to an iPad for the Met Office synoptic chart, very easy to do.
For iPad Safari
Open the web page Met Office, go to the synoptic chart view
Scroll up to the Safari header bar.
On the right is the small box with the up arrow on it (Share To).
Tap Share To, tap More, scroll down, at the bottom is the “Add To Home Screen” option. Tap it, menus pops up allowing a custom name to be created. Tap “Add”.
The icon is added at the end of the page of Apps on the Home Screen.

First impression is that it is over fussy but I usually that, with any new app. Give it a couple of weeks use, then, if you still do not like it, tell them . Use the forum to tell others and you may get support. And/or, us e their feedback.

A plus is the Inclusion of the last 6 hours radar data. The last 48 hours has long b even available at UK rainfall radar map - Met Office

The rain radar on the app has shown the past 6 hours rainfall for quite a few years.
