Met office iphone app

Absolute garbage it is.

Nice announcement saying how it had been updated based on feedback from cutomers.

Who were those people?

Bit of a curates egg this release.

Isobars - tick
Rain 'radar' - tick
Period forecasts for each day - tick
Wind speed map - cross
Temp map - cross

All in all I think it is better than the old one but needs further work to complete the job.

looking for a mobile weather gadget. Take it you wouldn't recomend an iphone app. if not what would you recomend. PS don't have iphone at the moment.:)

I take it theres still no inshore forecast on it. Thats the only reason I'd download their app.

This might be unfair, but I've never had much confidence in the inshore forecast. Having the shipping forecast in its own tab would be GREAT though!

Update it now all works and I'm very happy with it. It complements the marine forecast apps rather well.

Like all general weather apps, rather Mickey Mouse. Some good points, some bad. The wind and temperature displays are pretty awful. I like the rain predictions. It would be nice to see satellite and radar images in a sequence. Perhaps a last few hours’ rain merging into a forecast. I like the ease of getting forecast texts by area.

There is a “gentlemen’s” agreement between national Met Services not to issue detailed forecasts for each others’ territories. Weather4d and the other apps available will simply use the GFS and interpolate between grid points 50 km apart. Presumably, today’s forecast on this app in the Met Office detailed model and the 5 day their global model. They will interpolate from their 25 km grid.

A coastal forecast would be nice.

It is free.
