Forgive me if I sound ratty - I've been awake most of the night. It's disco time in Messalonghi, the noise woke me at 01:40 and the thumping shuddering base notes kept me awake until it stopped just after dawn. I've been told it's limited to friday and saturday but if you're sensitive to sleep deprivation maybe you should miss the place. Who goes to these bars and what is the attraction of staying all night? Maybe I had a miss-spent youth, I don't remember ever doing this ...DB

I can commiserate ...
I have ear plugs for use in Greek harbours (and Bodrum Turkey)
I met an American couple who both had Noise Cancelling headphones :)

These b****y foreigners, they do sleep in the afternoons and then socialise at ridiculous hours at weekends. Why can't they be like us? Wake up at dawn, work all day on the boat, then go to bed at dusk.

Warning here about Finikounda on Sunday 30th June. At about 20:30 or so, the local dance troupes will be performing in the harbour auditorium. Full sets of costumes. A visiting troupe as well - from Chicago the year before last, Thessaloniki last year. The whole village population will come out to play for a late and noisy night.

You have been warned.

Personally, I'll enjoy the evening immensely.

05:30 is the stop-time - and I have very little affection for their musical selection. Still it's nothing like as bad as Chania town quay. The deck vibrates.
Where-ever you go, in any popular seaside town, you'll have the same problem - Fiskardo, Preveza,
Try earplugs - works a treat. Don't know about noise-cancelling headphones - uncomfortable to sleep in...

Took 2 visitors to the same thing last year - thoroughly enjoyable - finished earlier and far less noisy than the Messologgi disco.
But the Messologgi disco is far less obtrusive than those in most of the holiday islands.

Here in Vlikho Bay, although we are anchored on the "posh" side at Geni, it was the church service across at Vlikho village, relayed to the open air which woke us at 6.30 and it has just stopped. Further south at Zakynthos Town, THREE churches take over with their bells at 5.30 from the discos! The vegetable sellers have just piped up.

We're off to Vathi Ithaca today where the noise is comparably reduced

Here in Vlikho Bay...

19May:
...those shabby, nasty little so called "marinas" at Preveza where poor people keep their tatty little cruising boats because they are scared to do any open water sailing. Ugh! Is there worse in the locality? WELL YES It's called Vlikho but that is for the seriously badly off!

Shurely shome mishtake?

We are berthed in Kithnos with large charter boats full of Poles all around us. They are already extremely noisy and I know very well from past experience that they will drink steadily all night, increasing the noise level throughout. Earplugs for us tonight.

Porto Lagos in the North Aegean - no music, no clubs/discos, no call to prayer except the Greek Orthodox church 0830-1100 on Sundays. Moored alongside and no other boats apart from us.

We only wanted sealed staples like milk, Flora and cheese so little personal risk there. The place has, however, become even shabbier than before and as for that "Yacht Club" Ugghh! What a bunch of ex-pat saddos there was seated on it's veranda there, yesterday afternoon.

Its good to see that you have not lost your sensitivity to others less fortunate as yourself.

Bit far away from your comfort zone in Gouvia ,aren't you Charlie. No wonder you are a bit anxious.

Can report no undue noise in Mesolongi last night and we were anchored in the bay. It is thought to be a weekends only phenomenon. We are staying two more nights but in the marina where the reception is much friendlier than before.

Still here Sunday and no disco noise whatsoever over weekend and it is a local PH tomorrow.
