Message for Jet Ski (PWC) tearing through Mersea Moorings 7/7/13

Well I've had a response back from the Sargent of the Essex Police Marine Unit so I'll hopefully enter some communication regarding people's concerns.

Don't forget to tell them about the bloke with the shotgun threatening the jet ski riders!

Just to add to your information bank.

A number of the speedsters appeared to come from the slip way near Decoy Point; Osea Caravan Park I think.

The area is supposed to be all 8 knots but they were speeding in and out of the moorings. The police only seem to patrol the area on a Thursday when surprisingly there are no problems.

In 2011 being frustrated with the lack of Marine Police presence at 'the best times' I issued a request for info under the Freedom of Information Act.

My text was as follows
text begins:-

As a regular user of the Blackwater River I would like to be provided with:-

(A) the frequency of patrols of the River Blackwater between Osea Island and Maldon Quay by the marine section.

(B) the dates of those patrols.

And

(c) the number of cautions/arrest/confiscations and prosecutions of offenders.

All the above to relate to calender years 2009, 2010 and 2011 to date.

The purpose of this request to determine the relationship of patrols days compared to the river use by Jet skis and other fast personal water craft. These craft are seen to regularly exceed the river bye law speed limits and present a significant risk to other river users both in and on the water. In my opinion it should be recognized that most effective patrols to ensure PWC use compliance would be during Summer weekends and bank Holidays and school holiday periods in the Spring and Summer.

Cant find the hard copy response but seem to remember that the information was deemed 'not available'.

Since then nothing seems to have changed other than the caravan park putting a planning application in 2013 for a floating pontoon/jetty to extend into the river to allow access to the shore earlier on the tide. This was proportedly to provide an access to their refreshment facility Needless to say I objected to the application on a number of grounds not least the probable attraction such a facility that would attract 'the wrong sort of people'. Must check out to see if it was approved or not.
