Last night a Scandinavian vessel was stripped of most of it's gear including two steering wheels, kicker and running rigging. This is a holiday weekend here and a large number of itinerants were camped just outside the marina, although there is no indication of their involvement. I was introduced to the Marina's "Security Staff" two nights ago which consisted of one slightly built bloke on a bike. The previously employed security company no longer operates in the marina I am told by one of the traders here. Although there is a rudimentary chain link fence around the marina, the very remote and isolated main gate is permanently open and un-attended. The victim yacht was moored on the head quay right under the marina office which remains closed until tomorrow morning because of the holiday.

Several yachts were broken into last week in Naousa, Paros. Mobile phones and other small valuables were stolen in the small hours. A mobo next to me had left his sliding door ajar, which was evidently an invitation, he lost several items. Presumably our boat didn't look worth the effort!

This doesn't surprise me , while we was there over winter twice I had to chase people off moored yachts , one time while one staff ( the big tall Marino ) sat in the bar drinking and watching on .

Even thought some people have said things have changed at Messilonghi I still waiting to hear off proof , so far all I herd is that people are getting a warm , welcome when they arrive by the office staff and the showers and toilets are all working again , Im not sure about you guys but if I was spending money in a marina I would at less expect a warm welcome , and showers and toilets . Can any one answer the question , as Yannis and the three merry men he control gone totally from the marina ? , now that would be a big improvement .

You can take it from me that Ioannis and Spiros the crane driver (but not Spiros the marinero) have gone but that , does leave the place desperately under-manned.

Not sure which Spiros you mean ?. There were two I know off , one use to be on night and he was fine , nice guy no problem the over one on days slimy git , all smiles and good morning in front of you but a right back stabbing , he wanted another 50 Euros to clean the bottom of the boat to do a half descent job , as well as he tried twice s to give me the wrong reading for ele , let alone all the other problem he cos all the other liveaboard ,

So Yannis is no longer in the yard ?

Re short of staff , the marina a lot better off being short of staff then having marinero who going to make live hell for client , in some ways I don't have much sympathy , Jo had a really nice manager there the other year who would had knocked the marina into shape , everyone got on with him and he went out of his way to make sure people where happy , and what happen ? He wasn't backed up , not only that but fired .

Today,Tuesday,it has emerged that the police and owners have confirmed that there appears to have been no sign of forced entry into the vessel which they had left in this position since weather conditions prevented them from mooring on one of the usual pontoons before having to leave for the long trip to the airport for their flight home to Norway. They left keys at the marina office to facilitate the yacht's re-positioning, the owners claim. On their return, they were immediately concerned when they entered the marina by taxi to see that their boat had not been moved as they had expected.

The total amount of equipment, sails and personal effects taken was stated as being a major loss to the couple.

Police forensic teams are expected to examine the boat today Meanwhile, it remains in the same position, seemingly stripped bare with it's instrument pod thrown askew at an odd angle.

Sorry to hear about this theft. Perhaps it aligns with the number of hose fittings which have been disappearing lately in the marina ;-)

It was in Msida marina where my boat had about £8K of thefts from it , after I'd left the keys with the marina. Perhaps not a good idea?

Immediate suspicion always lights on itinerants, followed by marina staff, in practice it frequently is one of the temporary berth-holders, I'm afraid. Boats are desperately easy to break into.

Vic,
Yannis is still wandering around the marina but doesn't have any management of it anymore. Apparently he is a co-owner of the restaurant also and this is his reason for being there every day. There is some type of court case against him and also an allegation of assault against Mata. Not to be crude, but in the two conversations I had with him it looks like he had his balls cut off.

I can imagine problems with security at the marina. But, every marina I've been to has security problems. If you compared it to a Caribbean marina it's downright crime free. Keep good insurance on the boat and hope your not the unlucky one the thieving basturds choose.

My interaction with the staff this year was good, bordering on excellent. I would strongly recommend someone to this marina based on my experiences, location, and price. The office staff was quick and efficient. The crane operators, especially Christos, are timely and professional. Gregory, the new yard manager seems to have his act together. They are cutting grass and cleaning up the place as time permits. I had a simple repair done and it was super-quick and a very reasonable price.

I can't remember the names of the guys at the restaurant and the guy running the store but they are very good men. I walked into town several times and it's a shorter distance every time :). I like the town also. No tourists mean the locals aren't jaded, though many can't speak English. The food is also very cheap compared to the Ionian Islands. Unless something changes, I'm planning on having Palarran there for this season and the next.

Hi
Thanks for the info ,
As for the allegation of assault against Mata. There no allegation about it , we was there the day he throw her off her chair and she had to be taken to hospital . You really don't what to believe what Yannis tells you .

I not going to go though it all again it old history to us now , almost every one who stay there last winter had a hell of a time , I hope it works out for JO and he sort out the marina , but as for us until Yannis and his three merry men are no longer there we will not return to Messilonghi , or will most of the other boats that was there all last winter , we know of 15 yacht that left there is year and won't be returning . Maybe we know some thing other don't ??

We still can not believe how we was treaded by the management and staff of that marina .
