Daughter & son with their respective partners, and I are staying on the island for a couple of nights to enjoy the event.

I expect the island will be rammed with cars and people and eating out rather tricky- has anyone got recommendations as to what is possible and what is to be avoided in this regard?

Gordon

We shall arrive by car Friday pm around LW and depart at a similar state of tide on Sunday

That's a difficult question, car parking wise. The slightly larger pubic car by the Victory is closed for the Funfair! There is a small public car park by the hammerhead - I think that closes for the safety of the fireworks - I might be wrong but if it were open don't try, its great cabaret. The YC car parks will be full v early and for obvious reasons the members' parking is enforced that weekend. So its a walk. Where are you staying?

On food, yesterday we had lunch at the Coast Inn and it was lovely - big portions, well cooked. No idea how much because my daughter paid! There is the Company Shed and the Oyster Bar for seafood, and the Victory Inn (I haven't been there for years). There are two good cafes in the centre, one opposite the library, the other opposite the church - actually there is a third small place at the Cake Hole also opposite the church - part of the other café. There is a deli shop in the centre. Then there is a restaurant opposite the Tescos - I've never been; it's next to the Bakery. Curry in the centre next to the deli; not sure if the Pizza place next to the Bank is open or not. That business is up for sale - that's the Pizza place not the Bank.

Tides: Friday HW 1551 - assume the road is awash 1450 to 1650 (that's a pessimistic guess). Sunday: it is not expected the tide to close the road.

Thanks Roger,

Daughter has booked a mobile home at the eastern end of the island so I intend to dump the car there for the weekend and walk back to the other end, to avoid traffic congestion- ETA Friday around 2000.

The advice on eateries etc. is much appreciated

Gordon
