Hi All,
When I look at Jeanneau's MF range of today, I seem to notice they all have outboard propulsion, inboards (and I/O) aren't offered in their standard catalogue anymore.
What's the reason for this you think ?? Have outboards today become so much better for average recreational use ??

THANKS,
V.

I think it is mainly done to increase living space. Outboard economy has improved but I think the main cost saving is on maintenance. Once you've finished boating, lift up your engine, give it a flush and that's it, no corrosion or fouling.

Yes, aswell as less noise in the cabin.
Drawback seems that these new boats are all C CE-rating. Guess it takes a heavy inboard to create enough stability for B rating.

The Marlin 855 has a B rating in the range, twin engined and slightly heavier than the standard boat.

I owned a MF805 with inboard diesel... lovely engine, but bloody noisy - it was so loud that often because of continuous noise and vibration we had to just go to neutral in the middle of the sea and get our heads out of the window to have fresh air!!!

I like the idea of outboard, but then finding petrol isn't always easy in some places. I disagree with the comments on ease of maintenance - new outboards actually have more expensive repair cost (annual service) than a similar size diesel and do suffer with their own issues... so only advantage I can see on that size of boat is more living space.

Agreed, until large outboard diesels become more established and a little less expensive, petrol availability is always going to be an issue.
