Hi everyone, anchor windless stopped working towards the end of last season and just getting to grips with it now. Quick connector in the chain locker for the umbilical hand controller looked fairly green and corroded so have changed out the plug and socket and that now looks all good on the multimeter. However, winch still not working. Battery is a separate one serving the winch and bow thruster and sits next to the thruster. All fully charged.

Next step I checked out the supply to the winch and solenoid and strangely there is +14v relative to the battery neutral terminal on both the solenoid positive supply and the main neutral from the battery. First reaction is that the solenoid is stuck closed and the neutral return to the battery has gone open circuit. Weird. Heavy wiring cables disappear into the boat with no obvious access to trace them through. Owners manual shows the wiring from the solenoid going aft (which it does) and disappearing! No idea how it gets back to the battery as there is no easy trim to remove. I did notice that in another post Paul Gooch said that there was a windlass trip at the bottom of the fore cabin steps. I have two battery isolators (+ and -) but nothing else on the steps side. Maybe on the other side in the bottom of the storage are by the shore power unit and battery charger? Unfortunately now back home rather than on the boat so cannot search further.

Any help gratefully accepted.
Thanks
