Phew!

Nine hundred miles, fifty web pages, two hundred photographs, thirteen video clips, twenty guests and one bent swimming platform later we present to you Esper’s Summer Sailing Log!

Read how we broke new speed records, learnt how to berth in gale-force gusts, discovered idyllic anchorages, waved to passing turtles, were subjected to awful Turkish pop music and reversed the boat into the marina pontoon. Ahem.

Best of all we collared our guests to write their own accounts of their experiences, so look out for some highly amusing blogs from Marcus and Fiona, as well as great entries from Rus, Liz, Mike and Lesley. Check out the ‘Crew’ section to see our guests in all their glory.

And to give you some idea of what sailing on Esper in Turkey is all about we’ve collated some great movie clips for your viewing pleasure and added more photographs to the Gallery.

Happy Christmas and fair winds to you all!

Re: Anybody else...

Advertising? What are you on about? This is a personal log from Liz and myself and we spend ages writing this up for family and friends. I don't have to do this you know, I just thought being keen sailors you might want to share our stories.

We don't charter the boat so how can this be advertising?

Well done, obviously a lot of work gone into this.

I think you have done a good job with it all, I loved the videos of Mersincik, it is one of our favourite places too. I first went there first in 1995 and most recently in 2004, absolutely fantastic. We did have it to ourselves on a couple of nights, not weekends, and it was absolutely wonderful waking up and jumping into our own private bay before breakfast.

(I hope that you are not advertising Mersincik)

Thanks Jamie..

Thanks, Jamie, your website is high on my Favourites list, and a great example to others on how to create a compelling boaty website.

Re: Thanks Jamie..

Toutvabien - it's a dilemma, isn't it? On the one hand we want to tell everyone about the fantastic anchorage and show off the photos and vid clips, but on the other hand we really should keep these a secret for our own benefit, shouldn't we? hehehe! To be honest a lot of people miss it because they're more interested in heading to Knidos, though the gulets do visit Mersincik in the summer. I saw 6 gulets in that tiny bay once!

pvb - thanks for your comments. People like you are the reason why we make an effort with the site.

Happy Christmas to you all!

Okay, you're sailing in the most beautiful area ( I was on flotlla there with Jon this year, please give him my regards! )
on a great boat. It will be another 5-7 yrs before I can do the same, providing that nice Mr Brown doesn't decide to steal my pension, I'm at work and it's raining and cold.

What, me, jealous? Never.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Have only had time to have a quick look at some of the new stuff so far, but as a NZ'er it was a very pleasant surprise to catch up on the life of Barnacle Bill after 30 years.

Regards

John

well done --- great site--- will look out for you when if we get there end of next summer from Malta - probably via Ionian. What is the berthing situation like there for an over winter 06-07? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The competition between the different local marinas is fantastic in the winter. There are some great deals going on at the moment. Six months plus one haul out for eu1000 or less. The three marinas in the Bodrum area are:

bodrum milta - in the centre of bodrum with good facilities including free wi-fi, water and leccy. Most expensive and full of rich Turkish stink pot owners who only ever turn up to pose at the weekend.

turgutreis - excuse spelling. last i heard this was the cheapest of the main three. i know little about it other than the town isn't all that but the facilities in the marina are supposed to be excellent

yalikavak bodrum - further up the coast (by a few miles) the only disadvantage here is that it's open to a westerly swell occassionally and you do have to pay for leccy i think. however yalikavak is a great little town and very picturesque and the marina is new and in direct competition to bodrum. I know of an ex-pat who has lived there for 20 years and keeps 2 boats there without complaint.

Hope this is of some help.
