For some reason and I don't know why I decided to visit the pay and display pontoons at the Pierhead today instead of my usual (graving dock).

The pontoons were in one hell of a state with lots of seagull guano covering the decking. Very poor show CHA . . . you have a cheek charging for facilities in such poor condition!

Have to agree, last time we were there - Sept this year, they were minging.
I had to wash the bottom of my shoes before boarding my boat!
And why have some of the pontoons been taken away?
And yes, I started two sentences with an "and!"

I stopped there after a single handed night passage just for ease of getting milk etc in the morning and was charged 10 quid. What for?

I see the 1 hour for £1 option has gone now too.

I do not see why the pontoons aren't free in the evening in a similar way to the car park by the Waterguard. Pontoons full of boats is good for visitors to the bay to see, it enhances the visitor experiance. Additionally if the pontoons were well used perhaps it would discourage the feathered residents a little?

They have lost interest in the boaters.

I used to go there all the time, but there is nowhere to moor these days.

Serious lack of pontoons at Mermaid Quay, plus the ones that are there all covered in poo.

You would have thought they wanted to attract money into the Cardiff/welsh economy. Obviously not interested.

Go to Bristol instead where they seem more interested in welcoming boaters.

This seems to be the general impression around the area.

CHA seem to forget that boats are a Harbour Authorities primary source of income . . although I guess as part of a council they are not bothered about balancing the books!

Time for someone to organise "People" power and organise a strongly worded petition to the authorities!

It worked for the "Beachley" sell off threat!

Thats part of the problem,Cardiff council including CHA must save £3 million from the buget over the next three years.

I know of 3 crew on the patrol/bin boats who have left in the last year that have not been replaced. Moral is at an all time low.

The remaining boat cant do it all.

If they are not going to run the pontoon installation proffesionally themselves then perhaps they should put the moorings out to lease? Its sad to see them so under utilised - I was at Gunwharf Quay recently, the visiting boats are a vital part to the general athmosphere, its a shame to see the waterfront at Cardiff dead 90% of the time.
