Anybody ever used Merlin electrical systems? I am thinking about upgrading my Princess 33 electricals and Merlins plans seem impressive. Would appreciate comments.

I've bought various bits from them.

The BEP range of switches and VSRs are particularly neat and fit together nicely. Starting from scratch I'd be very tempted to make up the main battery control panel using these. Might be available more cheaply elsewhere, though. I bought my second BEP VSR from Gael Force for a good bit less.

I bought a battery charger which failed just out of warrenty and they weren't terribly helpful.

Their wiring cable looks good, but I haven't used it: I'd check prices against Index first.

I would strongly recommend them. I bought an S200 complete system from them, all good quality BEP gear, excellent installation advice comes included and they are helpful on the phone. I went for the ready assembled panel to save time.
Their prices on line at the Power Store for component parts are not bad: http://www.power-store.com/index.asp
For a complete system you would need to phone.

My experience of them is entirely negative, and I formed the view that they were only interested in 'big' customers, compared with my measly couple of hundred quid. PM me for full details, but essentially they made promises they didn't keep, and when I got to the bottom of things I found out they lied to me.

I wrote two letters to the company, aimed specifically at the top of their management tree, and couched in reasonable, but unhappy terms. Both were ignored.

I swore to myself that I would never miss an opportunity to alert others to this side of their business style, and this post is me doing just that.

I'd buy from anybody, but them.

Have a pal who bought one of their "pre-fab'd" ready to install systems - with batterys etc. incl.
I fell out my chair when he told me how much !
2 yrs later he still has trouble .... there's a drain on the Domestic side that he cannot find ... I don't say it's fault of Merlin gear ... but it doesn't help trying to find the fault !
He changed out the battery - as it appeared that the battery was "goosed" ... well it's been in my boat as replacement for my old domestic and performing excellently without fancy add-ons ...

I think the big problem is that electrical systems are great when professionally fitted when boat is under construction - but later retro-fits etc. are always liable to who fits it, errors, faults etc. that like my mate can drive you crazy !!
