We still have a desire to keep the boat on the Hamble, and whilst down for SIBS we had another look round, and we think we have narrowed it down to the above two.

Having got quotes for our 13.5 metre boat of £8700 for Mercury, and £7700 for Swanwick I'm a bit confused.

Now I know MDL have some attractive bonuses like free visitor moorings, cheapish fuel etc., but I think Premier have similar offers.

So my question is why would you pay £1000 more to be at Mercury when as I see it Swanwick looks quite good. or am I missing something.

Swanick, every time.

Premier marina's realy are first class when it comes to customer service. They offer the Premier club which gives you free nights in other Premier Marina's and unlimited short stays at any one. I have found the management at Chichester a breath of fresh air, and facilities at the Premier sites I have been to (Gosport, Swanick and of course Chi) are first class and well cared for.

Also, they offer fuel at genuinily cost price for berth holders which moves with each delivery whenever that might be (currently going down).

Look at Solitairs recent post for a comparison with other marinas and fuel suppliers on the hamble.

Also, Swanick is quicker to get to from the M27 as the Mercury side of the hamble means going past the big tescos and down the country lanes which can be jammed up and add 30 minutes to the journy on a busy weekend or firday night.

Oh, and you save a grand....

[/ QUOTE ] That's true but it also takes additional 30 minutes to get from the Hamble entrance up to Swanwick.

Swanwick can be a beggar to drive to at busy times, and is not in the most attractive part of So'ton either.

oh come on, Mercury to Swanick is no more than 5 minutes by boat.

Agree Bursledon is not the most attractive part looking road ways, but from the marina the view across to the Jolly Sailor and fields is very pleasant

Yes Swanwick for me. Moved there last year from Chi. Great big open fairways and very close to the motorway through the lanes. The building work due to start in the winter may spoil things though.

Hi Phil, Chi misses you!! I'm not sure the building work is going to start any time now, looking at the current economic climate, what is the chance it will be shelved?

I suspect that finding a bank to finance a speculative marina, retail and residential development right now may be tough. As a Swanwick berth holder I am not in a rush for them to start making a mess!

We've (sort of) been berthed in both

The old boat was (and is) in Mercury
The new one was supplied and stayed (for a couple of months) in Swanwick.

I recommend both

with all the work that might happen - I'd go for Mercury.
No particular reason - just a soft spot for me.
