RIP
I'll be honest I would prefer a lightweight 2-stroke for our new tender, but I don't want a used one and I believe only Tohatsu are still producing a 10HP 2-stroke and they can only be bought new in the Caribbean.
So, it appears the Eurocrats have had their way and I'll be buying a 4-stroke. The current crop of single cylinder hold no interest for me being far too vibey for my liking. A small twin of around 10HP offers most of what we want but of course weight is an issue. So here's a quick round up of what is available with dry weights.
Honda BF10 - 42KG
Mercury F9.9M - 38KG
Suzuki DF9.9A - 39.5KG
Yamaha F9.9 - 39.9KG
Mercury is the lightest although reading the small print tells you that weight is without propeller.
We'll plan to use a Cooney Handylift for hoisting it on and off the pushpit, so I don't suppose a KG or 2 makes that much difference. The only thing that puts me off the Honda is that their BF20 model only weighs 4.5KG more. Now that would be fun on a small RIB
Which reminds me, we intend to buy a Walker Bay Genesis, probably a 310FTD or 340FTD.
Would appreciate some feedback from owners of any of the above engines and as always any other comments are most welcome
