I had one of those, everything is easy to fix/repair except if you have cylider leak.

Buy a cylinder compression test for just £20 from Halfords and ask the owner to let you do a compression test:
1. Warm engine to operating temperature (if the engine will run).
2. disconenct the fuel line
3. Remove all spark plugs.
4. Lubricate the fitting on the tester with a little grease and install it in the first spark plug boss.
5. With the throttle in WOT position, crank the engine for about 3 sec.
6. Record the reading and repeat the procedure on all cylinders.

if you don't see much difference between cylinders' compression then you are OK.

Partwise, Ebay is usually the best place to look for parts. Carb, fuel pump, etc. are usually available.

Also test the gearbox, you should not hear too much "clug" noise when reving the engine and in gear. Also, try both forward/reverse.

DO a compression test, as it shows if powerhead is dead or worthy...

trevorgh , a Man who lives near Me has bits for those engines and scoures the Country for more as often as poss, so there's a contact if needed.
The last two 'brown bands ' that had probs that I was called to look at had duff leccy 'brains' but through me Man I was able to help.
Solid engines generally but a little thirsty if anything!
