Mercury 3.3hp 2 stroke

Hi

Does anyone know if a Mercury 3.3hp 2 stroke will leak petrol from the carb if the fuel tap is left open and the engine is not running.

No it should not do. Don't understand why you would not turn the fuel off when you stop the engine unless it was just a brief stop.

It will if it is not upright, i.e. lying down in a locker or your boot. If it does in upright position the float needle is not seating properly - clean or replace.

Assuming you have the motor upright, no it should not leak fuel if the tap is left turned on.

Fuel coming from the carb it indicates that the float chamber is overflowing. This may be due to the needle valve not seating properly due to dirt or wear. It may be due to a defective or incorrectly adjusted float.

However it is just possible perhaps that if the tank vent has been closed and the thing left in the sun the build up of pressure in the tank will force excess fuel past the needle valve. ????????
